I would recommend this book to other students to read because this book does accurately reflect some aspects of America. This book accurately reflects some of the the American aspects because it holds themes of overcoming obstacles that each the mother and daughters had to face, but also it showed how the generations began to evolve. Through this book all the characters had to over come some sort of obstacle. This represents America because when immigrants moved to America for the first time, they did not have it easy. Many of the immigrants had to work really hard to make pay, but also many of them were discriminated, and they had to start their lives all over and make it in the world again. For example, many people had to be separated from their family at a young age to ensure that they will have a good childhood and would be able to grow up in a good environment; this also occurred in the book. This book also shows how the generations between the mother and daughter has changed. This represents the aspects of America because the first group of immigrants that moved to America still strongly held on to their traditions and beliefs. However, after a few generations, the traditions and beliefs were losing their importance as the people began to adapt to the American customs.
Another student from another country could learn of the struggles that some of the immigrants had to deal with when they first came to Hawaii. A student from another country would be able to see how the immigrants were also able to prosper from where they initially where in life. Therefore, they can learn about the previous lifestyles that were found in America during that time.
